What do you want to be Known for

Friday, January 29th, 2010

I suspect all of us have this internal mechanism that drives us to desire that our name be on the list of individuals that did something that some might say should be immortalized in time. We might have dreamed of being King Leonidas I of Sparta or one of his immortal 300 or kneeling next… »

$1.9 trillion national debt limit increase

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

The Senate is planning to vote on this tomorrow. There is sufficient opposition to this size of debt increase that could lead to its defeat and force the Senate to approve a much smaller increase. Whatever the Senate approves will have to be approved by the House also. The advantage of forcing Congress to approve… »

Animal Control once Again

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I have been in and out of town for the last several days on some rather important family business and came back to find that the Mayors and Dr. Lake had invited all the vets and rescue groups to a meeting. There was no invitation at my door, which I found rude but not unusual,… »

Be Prepared

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

This was sent by a friend, who reiterated a question asked at the end of the article about how we will communicate with our loved ones in the event these dire (but realistic) predictions come to pass.  Please consider this very seriously.  Thoughtful suggestions are welcome.  I mentioned walkie-talkies, CB radios, ham radio & shortwave… »

Postal about The Service

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

This morning, just prior to the Jackson City Council meeting the Mayor presented a new item to the agenda meeting for us to vote on. This new and rather expensive document had little to do with city business nor was it an emergency matter that the council had to measure and decide any course of action… »

A New Years Resolution

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

This dispatch is the result of much thought about, observation of and grieving over where our country, your country, my country, is headed.  It was not borne of any delusion that I’m qualified to give any of you advice.  Rather, I strongly believe that 2010 is going to be a very pivotal year for America,… »

Where does it End

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

Editor, the Ledger,

Unfortunately for what’s left of America, the people… »

I am rejoicing and am glad in it.
Thank you to all who sent me cards and emails -  it was a wonderful way to begin this 8th decade of my life.
And for all those who missed my  little game on the ‘8th Decade’ -  it means I… »

Welcome

"Freedom" like life is fragile and delicate and can be ended without warning or fanfare or gradually like the sands of time.
