Since 1982 when then-president Ronald Reagan refused to sign the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, better known as the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), it has been kept on a legislative backburner awaiting a ratification vote in the U.S. Senate. Suddenly in early May, both Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Leon Panetta, Secretary of Defense, both announced that they were in favor of getting LOST ratified this year. According to some pundits, Kerry would have already scheduled hearings on LOST, but postponed them to avoid hurting the chances of key LOST supporter, Senator Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), in his primary face-off with tea-party-backed Richard Mourdock on May 8. It turns out that Lugar lost anyway. (Click here to view a short video of Dick Morris warning about LOST.) So, now that Lugar’s primary election is over, Kerry says he will work hard to find the right time for holding hearings and a ratification vote this year. At this point, it’s hard to predict when a ratification vote might occur. We have to expect it could occur as early as June and as late as a lame-duck session after the elections [...]

The White House website has always featured biographies of past presidents. The biographies are largely designed for students, so they can research the history of the White House occupants; the text is taken from The Presidents of the United States of America, by Michael Beschloss and Hugh Sidey. Now, however, President Obama has decided that those other presidential biographies weren’t complete without a sentence about him. Seriously. As it turns out, all past presidents are just a window into President Obama’s grand accomplishments. Here are some examples: President Calvin Coolidge: “On Feb. 22, 1924 Calvin Coolidge became the first president to make a public radio address to the American people. President Coolidge later helped create the Federal Radio Commission, which has now evolved to become the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). President Obama became the first president to hold virtual gatherings and town halls using Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, etc.” The creation of the FCC wasn’t even one of Coolidge’s top ten accomplishments as president. But it allows Obama to brag about how he uses Facebook, so now it’s one of Coolidge’s most important achievements. President Herbert Hoover: “President Herbert Hoover signed the bill founding the Department of Veterans Affairs July [...]

The victory in Indiana last week — where Richard Mourdock defeated anti-gun incumbent Senate Dick Lugar — was pretty neat. The national media’s collective jaw dropped to the floor, and the political pundits in Washington are now wondering whose scalp will be next. Well that’s pretty easy, if your in Tennessee its GOP State Representative Debra Maggart, 45th District – Hendersonville, White House, Goodlettsville, and Millersville, TN. Now it may seem a little strange conservative, constitutional minded organizations going after someone from GOP, but its true. As I have said once, I will say again, conservatives are not resting on their laurels. Of course Richard Mourdock faces a tough general election and people need to know where he and his opponent stand on gun rights issues. Organizations that I work with are going state by state to get rid of the people who threaten gun rights and put fresh faces into the U.S. Senate, if possible all the way down to town or county councils. Of course your help is needed as well. Organization like Gun Owners of America, Tennesseans for Liberty, the Tennessee Tea Partys and Tennessee Firearms associations desperately need to get the gun records of candidates — challengers and incumbents — into the hands [...]

A man asked his wife what she’d like for her birthday. “I’d love to be eight again.” she replied. On the morning of her birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Coco Pops, and then took her off to the local theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park: the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, every thing there was. Five hours later she staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. Right away, they journeyed to a McDonald’s where her loving husband ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a refreshing chocolate shake. Then it was off to the movies: the latest Star Wars epic, a hot dog, popcorn, all the Coke she could drink, and her favorite lolly and M&M’s. What a fabulous adventure! Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted. He leaned over his precious wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, Well, Dear, what was it like being eight again?” Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. “I meant my dress size!!!!!!!
I am very tired, more so than normal, as the occurrences of the last couple of weeks have played heavy on my life. One of the few joys that I have had during this time has been working with high school students. I have been teaching history at a private school in the area and even though they haven’t been the best of students, they do give me hope that some of what I am teaching will sink in…. If I am fortunate I may survive long enough to enjoy the fruits of my labor. I pray that they have learned something for all this. So some of you may ask, just what am I teaching… well its history, both American and World, but not revisionist history as so many are required to teach today. I am using the Patriots History of the United States as a guide for one. Certainly not an easy text and very conservative in nature. But that is not my only guide. Over the years, I have grown to know Bill (William) Federer, who has a keen sense of history and the effects that revisionist history has had on our nation and our children. Today [...]
